French

Learning another language opens children up to the wider world, and at Gordonbrock we teach French to spark curiosity about other cultures and deepen pupils’ understanding of the world around them.

We want all our children to leave us as confident communicators who can hold a simple conversation in French; curious learners who enjoy exploring how another language works; and open-minded citizens with a genuine appetite for other cultures and, in time, other languages.

Our teaching puts conversation first – children learn far more than lists of words. They listen to and join in with French songs, rhymes and stories, build up everyday vocabulary, and grow in confidence until they can speak and write in familiar settings for themselves. In this way we lay the foundation for learning further languages, and for study, work and travel in other countries in the future.
